Bangladesh and Pakistan leaders invite US investment
South Asian leaders are actively courting United States investors to bolster their respective national economies.
In New York, Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman addressed business leaders at a JPMorgan Chase event, stating that the country is ‘open for business.’ He positioned Bangladesh as a strategic platform for accessing regional markets, highlighting opportunities in energy, infrastructure, technology, and manufacturing. Rahman expressed a goal to build a one-trillion-dollar economy by 2034 through deregulation and improved investor protections.
Simultaneously, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met with delegations from the Business Council for International Understanding and the US-Pakistan Business Council. Sharif urged American firms to explore sectors such as agriculture, minerals, information technology, and ports. He noted that Pakistan is implementing structural reforms, including economic digitization and revenue administration changes, to create a more favorable business climate.
