Bangladesh announces rewards for recovering looted weapons

Bangladesh Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmed has announced the formation of a special unit dedicated to recovering illegal and looted weapons across the country. Speaking at the Rajarbagh Police Lines following a quarterly crime review meeting, the Minister detailed a tiered reward system for informants who provide actionable intelligence.

Informants providing information that leads to the recovery of heavy weapons can receive rewards of up to 200,000 BDT. For information regarding pistols, revolvers, or shotguns, the reward is set at up to 50,000 BDT. Smaller rewards ranging from 10,000 to 20,000 BDT will be offered for information leading to the recovery of sound grenades, looted tear gas canisters, and other items.

The Minister emphasized that the identities of informants will be kept confidential to ensure their safety. The special unit is already working with intelligence support from various agencies. In addition to weapon recovery, the government plans to conduct special operations to combat drug smuggling, terrorism, and extortion.
