Bangladesh assigns ministers to oversee district development and law

The Bangladesh government has assigned 30 ministers, state ministers, and parliamentary whips to oversee development and administrative activities across the country's 64 districts. According to a notification from the Cabinet Division, these officials are tasked with monitoring law and order, curbing corruption and drug abuse, and ensuring transparency, accountability, and good governance at the local level.

The decision follows reports of widespread corruption and the looting of development funds during the previous regime, with some funds allegedly laundered abroad or used for activities that compromised national security and social stability. The new oversight structure aims to coordinate public welfare activities and ensure that development allocations are managed effectively within their assigned districts.
