Bangladesh attracts $9.21 bn Chinese investment proposals

Eleven Chinese companies have put forward investment plans totalling about $9.21 billion for Bangladesh. The CEOs met with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman and Bangladesh Investment Development Authority chairman Ashik Chowdhury, stressing the stability of the newly elected government and a newly‑presented five‑year tax outlook.

Proposed projects span multiple sectors: $250 m for gas‑field development, $890 m for waste‑to‑energy plants, $650 m for the Mongla Port Economic Zone, $250 m for electric smart‑meter production, $180 m for cold‑chain logistics, $190 m for textile recycling, lithium‑battery and solar‑power facilities, $1.65 bn for e‑waste recycling at Payra Port, $190 m for a rolling‑stock assembly joint venture, $4.5 bn for the Dhaka‑Chattogram highway PPP, $270 m for a university and vocational park, and $190 m for a Chinese‑herbal‑medicine cultivation project. These investments aim to create tens of thousands of jobs and boost Bangladesh’s infrastructure and industrial capacity.
