Bangladesh Minister urges MPs to support Hilsa fish conservation

Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Mohammad Aminur Rahman, has issued official letters to 111 Members of Parliament across 38 districts to support the 2026 Hilsa fish conservation campaign. The initiative, running from October 8 to October 29, aims to protect the breeding of the Hilsa, a national GI-tagged resource vital to Bangladesh's economy, food security, and culture.

The campaign prohibits the harvesting, transportation, storage, and marketing of Hilsa in designated areas. The Minister emphasized that the success of this national program relies not only on law enforcement but also on the active leadership of local representatives and political figures to raise public awareness and discourage illegal fishing.
