Bangladesh Bank Approves Global Payment Providers to Boost Digital Trade

Bangladesh Bank has introduced a new regulatory framework that permits licensed foreign payment service providers, such as those similar to PayPal and Payoneer, to operate in Bangladesh. The rules allow these providers to facilitate inbound and outbound cross‑border payments under the central bank’s oversight, aiming to simplify digital transactions for freelancers, exporters, e‑commerce firms and other businesses.

The initiative is intended to broaden competition, improve service quality and strengthen compliance with international financial standards, thereby supporting the country’s expanding digital economy and its large IT‑outsourcing community.
