Bangladesh celebrates 70th anniversary of pioneering film “Mukh O Mukhosh”

On 3 August 1956 the film *Mukh O Mukhosh* premiered at Dhaka’s Rupmahal Cinema, marking the first full‑length Bengali feature produced in then‑East Pakistan. Directed by Abdul Jabbar Khan and opened by Governor A K Fazlul Haq, the movie was shot across various locations in Dhaka and later edited in Lahore’s Shah‑Naur Studio. Its release demonstrated that Bengali‑language cinema could thrive despite limited resources and technical challenges.

Seventy years later, a poster exhibition was held at Channel i Prangan to commemorate the milestone. Industry veterans, cultural officials and representatives of film companies attended, emphasizing the need for quality production and improved cinema infrastructure to preserve Bangladesh’s cinematic heritage.
