Bangladesh Cricket Board approves new six-team domestic model

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has approved a new six-team domestic cricket model that will unify first-class four-day, List A one-day, and List A T20 formats under a single competition framework. The inaugural T20 tournament is tentatively scheduled for December 2026.

Under this new structure, the BCB plans to offer team ownership rights to established corporate and financial institutions in Bangladesh for an initial three-year period. To support the ecosystem, the board has also implemented a comprehensive upward revision of match fees for men’s, women’s, and age-group cricket.

Barishal is set to serve as the launch site for the new model at the Kabi Jibanananda Das Stadium. The venue is currently undergoing a Tk65 crore modernization project overseen by the National Sports Council. While some matches will be played in Dhaka, Barishal will host the opening ceremony, playoffs, and the final.
