Bangladesh dismisses former DMP official Harun-or-Rashid
The Ministry of Home Affairs has dismissed Mohammad Harun-or-Rashid, a former Additional Commissioner (Crime and Operations) of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP), from his position. The dismissal is effective from August 6, 2024, following proven allegations of unauthorized absence from his workplace.
According to a government notification, Harun-or-Rashid, who held the rank of DIG, failed to report to duty without permission. Despite multiple attempts to contact him via his permanent address and email, he did not return to his post. A departmental case was initiated on April 15, 2024, after police headquarters requested disciplinary action.
An investigation conducted in June concluded that the charge of abandoning his post was proven under the Government Servants (Discipline and Appeal) Rules, 2018. Harun-or-Rashid reportedly failed to respond to multiple show-cause notices. Following a recommendation from the Bangladesh Public Service Commission on October 1, the President approved the decision to dismiss him.
