Bangladesh Election Commission initiates police training for local polls

Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) AMM Nasir Uddin has announced that the Election Commission is preparing to conduct upcoming local government elections in a free, fair, and credible manner. To ensure a professional and peaceful environment, the commission is providing necessary training to the police force, with approximately 50,000 personnel expected to participate. Ansar and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) personnel will also receive training in phases.

The commission plans to utilize technology to monitor the electoral situation in real time, including the deployment of CCTV and body-worn cameras for law enforcement officers. The CEC emphasized that the commission will provide lawful instructions to agencies to maintain an acceptable standard similar to previous national elections.

Inspector General of Police Ali Hossain Fakir has assured the commission of full cooperation. While the local government elections are scheduled to follow the recent political transitions, the commission aims to shorten the traditional 10-to-12-month election timeframe as much as possible. The official schedule will be announced once preparations are complete.
