Bangladesh eyes maiden World Test Championship final

Bangladesh chief selector Habibul Bashar believes the national team is well-positioned to qualify for its first ICC World Test Championship (WTC) final. Following a 1-1 Test series draw in Australia, Bangladesh currently sits fourth in the WTC 2025-27 standings with 40 points and a PCT of 55.56.

To secure a place in the 2027 final at The Oval, the team must finish in the top two of the standings. Bashar highlighted recent improvements in the side, citing a 2-0 series sweep over Pakistan and a historic Test victory in Australia as evidence of progress.

Bangladesh has six matches remaining in the current cycle. Upcoming assignments include a two-Test series against the West Indies at home and a series against England.
