Bangladesh faces heatwave and intensifying Bay of Bengal depression

Bangladesh is experiencing a heatwave across 18 districts, including Dhaka, following a brief respite. The highest temperature was recorded at 37.5 degrees Celsius in Srimangal, Moulvibazar. Other regions, including Faridpur and Khulna, also reported temperatures reaching 37 degrees Celsius.

Simultaneously, a low-pressure system in the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression. The Bangladesh Meteorological Department has issued local warning signal number 3 for the Chittagong, Cox's Bazar, Mongla, and Payra sea ports due to rough seas and strong winds.

Meteorologists predict that the heatwave may subside starting Tuesday as the weather system evolves. The depression is expected to bring light to moderate rainfall across several divisions, including Rajshahi, Khulna, Barisal, and Chittagong, with the potential for heavy rainfall in some areas. Fishing boats and trawlers in the northern Bay of Bengal have been advised to remain close to the coast.
