Bangladesh Fast Bowler Nahid Rana Ruled Out, New Squad Named for Australia Test Series

The Bangladesh Cricket Board announced a 15‑member squad for the opening Test of a two‑match series against Australia, the first Test to be played in Darwin and the second in Mackay. The squad, led by captain Najmul Hossain Shanto, includes the returning batsman Soumya Sarkar and uncapped fast bowler Musfik Hasan. Bangladesh's pace attack will be headed by Taskin Ahmed, with Hasan Mahmud, Khaled Ahmed and Ebadot Hossain also selected; the spin department features Mehidy Hasan Miraz and Taijul Islam.

Fast bowler Nahid Rana suffered a Grade 2 left‑side strain during the second T20I against Zimbabwe on 17 July and will miss the Test series, a major setback for Bangladesh. The BCB also confirmed that Shoriful Islam is recovering from a hamstring injury and Liton Das from a calf injury, limiting their availability for the opening Test. Musfik Hasan’s inclusion is a direct response to these injuries.

The series forms part of the ICC World Test Championship 2025‑27, with Australia currently top of the points table and Bangladesh fourth, making the fixtures important for both sides' championship standings.
