Bangladesh government to enhance elderly social security and healthcare

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has announced that the government is implementing multi-faceted plans to ensure the financial security, healthcare, and dignified living of elderly citizens. In a message released on the occasion of International Day of Older Persons, the Prime Minister highlighted that increasing life expectancy due to medical advancements necessitates updated social and health support systems.

Key initiatives include the expansion of old-age allowances in both amount and number of beneficiaries. The government is also moving forward with the ‘Family Card’ system to provide financial assistance and expand primary healthcare services. These measures are part of a broader commitment to strengthen the social safety net for poor and vulnerable populations to build a welfare-oriented state.
