Bangladesh government updates list of 92 national and international days

The Cabinet Division of Bangladesh has issued a new circular designating 92 national and international days to be observed by the government. This new directive replaces the previous guidelines issued on March 11.

The days are categorized into three tiers: ‘A’, ‘B’, and ‘C’. Tier ‘A’ includes 18 days, with the addition of ‘National Revolution and Solidarity Day’ on November 7. Tier ‘B’ consists of 39 days, including the newly added ‘National Rural Development Day’ on July 6. The date for ‘National Tea Day’ has also been moved from June 4 to May 21. Tier ‘C’ includes 35 days.

To ensure fiscal discipline, the government has introduced spending limits. While no specific limit is set for Tier ‘A’ events, Tier ‘B’ celebrations are capped at a maximum of 50,000 BDT from public funds. No special allocations from the development sector will be provided for Tier ‘C’ days.

Additionally, the circular instructs officials to avoid excessive decoration, lighting, and large-scale festivities to reduce costs and prevent public inconvenience. While seminars, symposiums, and media discussions are permitted, the government advises against holding rallies or processions on working days and suggests avoiding the transport of district-level employees to Dhaka for these events.
