Bangladesh: Hindu minorities face violence and political tension

Violence and political tension regarding the safety of Hindu minorities in Bangladesh have escalated following two separate fatal attacks. In Naogaon district, a Hindu goldsmith named Alif Chandra Dutta was killed by assailants using a sharp weapon during a robbery. In a separate incident in Cox’s Bazar, a Hindu woman named Rani Sushil was stabbed to death inside her home by an intruder.

Simultaneously, the Awami League has criticized the ruling BNP administration for the continued imprisonment of Hindu priest Chinmoy Krishna Das. The party described the detention as an act of “extreme brutality and cruelty,” particularly noting that Das’s mother is suffering from Stage 4 cancer. The Awami League has called for the immediate and unconditional release of Das, alleging that the charges against him are false and intended to suppress advocacy for minority rights.
