Bangladesh initiates e-Parliament system for paperless legislature
Bangladesh is initiating the implementation of an ‘e-Parliament’ system to establish a modern, paperless legislative environment. The project aims to digitize parliamentary activities and documentation, providing versions in both Bengali and English.
Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad met with the Library Committee of the 13th National Parliament to discuss the transition. To facilitate the process, the Speaker has directed the formation of a committee led by Deputy Speaker Barrister Kaiser Kamal to review the system's structure, technical infrastructure, and implementation plan. A formal presentation on the proposed system is expected by the end of September.
The transition is intended to streamline document management, improve information storage, and reduce administrative costs and paper usage. The parliament plans to seek technical and logistical support from the UNDP and other donor agencies to realize the project.
