Bangladesh Launches Bidding for 220 MW Sonagazi Solar Power Plant
Bangladesh’s state‑owned Electricity Generation Bangladesh PLC (EGB) has opened an international competitive bidding process for the construction of a 220 MW solar photovoltaic plant in the Sonagazi area of Feni District. The project, funded through a mix of forward lease, loan and grant financing from the Islamic Development Bank, is part of the country’s push to expand clean‑energy capacity.
Interested contractors must demonstrate an average annual construction turnover of at least US$130 million over the past three years and possess relevant power‑sector experience, including at least one comparable project worth US$70 million or two worth US$50 million each. Bids must be submitted by 15 September, after a pre‑bid meeting on 19 August, and the selected developer will have 18 months to complete the works. Bangladesh’s total solar capacity stood at 1,146 MW at the end of last year, supported by recent tax incentives and a private‑partner framework for solar projects on public land.
