Bangladesh lawmakers warned of mobile hacking and voice cloning fraud

Bangladesh Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has warned Members of Parliament to remain vigilant against sophisticated digital fraud, including mobile phone hacking, voice cloning, and forged signatures. During a parliamentary session, Moni reported that several MPs had their mobile numbers hacked to send urgent requests for money, ranging from Tk 25,000 to Tk 50,000.

Monis noted that both ruling party and opposition lawmakers have fallen victim to these scams. He emphasized the need for national awareness, suggesting the issue be broadcast via television to inform the public.

Deputy Speaker Kayser Kamal stated that the responsibility for preventing such incidents lies with the state, including the relevant ministries and the executive branch. In response, Moni indicated that the Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) has already begun taking preventive measures to address these security threats.
