Bangladesh life expectancy surpasses India and Pakistan

According to the latest Global Health Estimates from the World Health Organization (WHO), Bangladesh's life expectancy in 2023 was 72.7 years, surpassing both India (71 years) and Pakistan (68.2 years).

While Bangladesh leads its South Asian neighbors, it remains behind Western nations such as the United States, which recorded a life expectancy of 78.5 years, and Canada, at 81.4 years. The WHO report notes that global life expectancy has largely recovered to pre-pandemic levels after a significant drop in 2021 due to COVID-19.

Health officials emphasize that while increased longevity is a major achievement, a critical future challenge is improving ‘healthy life expectancy.’ Current data indicates that the period people live in good health remains significantly lower than total life expectancy.
