Bangladesh maintains port operations and tourism activity during Durga Puja holidays

Chattogram Port and Chattogram Custom House have maintained full operational activities during the five-day Durga Puja holiday period to ensure uninterrupted import-export trade. Under government directives, approximately one-third of the customs workforce remains on duty, with around 7,000 bills of entry submitted for import and export consignments. Port data indicates that between 3,000 and 4,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) of imported containerized cargo are delivered daily.

Simultaneously, domestic tourism has seen a significant surge as travelers flock to regional hubs like Cox’s Bazar, Kuakata, and the hilly regions of Khagrachhari, Bandarban, and Sajek. Despite recent security concerns, hoteliers report high occupancy rates. To manage the influx of several hundred thousand visitors, Bangladesh Railway operated special trains, and local authorities deployed extra personnel and mobile courts to monitor service standards and prevent price gouging.
