Bangladesh measles outbreak kills 613, including five children

Bangladesh’s health authorities reported that the measles outbreak has claimed a total of 613 lives, among them five children. In the latest 24‑hour period, 915 new suspected measles cases were recorded, raising the nationwide count of suspected cases to 77,791. Laboratory‑confirmed infections rose by 117 to a total of 9,620.

Hospitals are under severe strain: four dedicated wards with ICU facilities now operate, but a senior nurse warned, “The ward has 26 beds and they are always full. As soon as one patient is discharged, another is admitted.” Families are forced to move from one hospital to another in search of beds. Health experts stress the need for large‑scale vaccination, public awareness, and timely treatment to curb the rapidly spreading infection among children.
