Bangladesh measles outbreak kills 712 children as cases exceed 99,000

Bangladesh's ongoing measles outbreak has claimed the lives of 712 children, after four more deaths were recorded in the last 24 hours. The Health Services Directorate reported that the total number of suspected cases has risen to 99,207, with 941 new suspected cases identified in the same period.

Since early April, more than 82,000 patients have been hospitalized with measles symptoms, of whom about 79,000 have been discharged after treatment. In response, the government launched an emergency vaccination campaign on 7 April to curb the spread of the disease, especially among children who are most vulnerable to severe complications such as pneumonia and encephalitis.
