Bangladesh Ministry of Health assigns 54 officials to monitor government hospitals
The Ministry of Health and Family Welfare has assigned 54 officials to monitor and supervise government hospitals to ensure healthcare quality, administrative discipline, and public service standards. An official order issued by the Administration-1 branch of the Health Services Division tasks officials at the level of Additional Secretary, Joint Secretary, and Deputy Secretary with inspecting various medical colleges, specialized hospitals, general, district, and upazila hospitals.
These officials are responsible for observing manpower, cleanliness, medical equipment, infrastructure, security, and overall management. They are also directed to monitor the digital attendance of doctors and healthcare workers and coordinate with hospital heads to improve services. Furthermore, the officials will work with District Commissioners, Civil Surgeons, and Upazila Nirbahi Officers to oversee vaccination programs, infectious disease prevention, and public awareness initiatives.
Each assigned official must visit at least one hospital per month and submit a report containing observations and recommendations by the 7th of the following month. The scope of supervision includes major institutions such as Dhaka Medical College Hospital, Mitford Hospital, Shaheed Suhrawardy Medical College Hospital, the National Institute of Cardiovascular Diseases, the National Institute of Cancer Research and Hospital, and the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery.
