Bangladesh officials face dismissal over corruption and fraud

The Bangladesh Ministry of Home Affairs has taken disciplinary action against two senior officials following investigations into corruption and financial misconduct.

Md Abdul Fattah, the former jailor of Panchagarh District Jail, has been dismissed from service. He was found responsible for embezzling Tk1.33 crore from prison food supply funds through fraudulent billing and bypassing procurement procedures. Investigations revealed that inflated food ration requisitions were submitted despite low inmate numbers.

Separately, Dulal Krishna Saha, the chief chemical examiner of the Department of Narcotics Control, has been ordered into compulsory retirement. This action follows allegations of fraudulent travel allowance claims totaling Tk3.15 lakh. Both disciplinary decisions were made following departmental inquiries and recommendations from the Bangladesh Public Service Commission.
