Bangladesh officials pledge crackdown on crime and extortion
Bangladesh law enforcement officials have pledged to intensify operations against terrorists, drug dealers, and extortionists. Home Minister Salahuddin Ahmad stated that police are continuously arresting criminals and that these efforts will be stepped up. He emphasized that political identities will not be considered, asserting that criminals are being treated strictly as criminals regardless of their affiliations.
Inspector General of Police Md Ali Hossain Fakir echoed this sentiment, stating that a criminal’s only identity is that of a criminal and that there is no scope for political consideration in justice. During a crime review meeting, the IGP also directed officers to take strict action against drug-related crimes and to utilize community policing to prevent trafficking.
In preparation for the upcoming Durga Puja festival, police leadership has ordered field-level officers to ensure security and prevent the spread of rumors or misinformation on social media. Additionally, officials have been instructed to investigate whether influential individuals are backing juvenile gangs and to ensure the professional use of body-worn cameras during duties.
