Bangladesh opposition parties allege rising violence under BNP government
Opposition leaders and the Awami League have accused the ruling BNP government in Bangladesh of failing to maintain law and order, alleging a rise in violence and political vendettas.
NCP Convener Nahid Islam stated that security has deteriorated since the BNP took power, citing instances of vandalism at the Radda MCH-FP Centre and a content creator's studio. He alleged that the administration has failed to act effectively against such incidents and suggested some attacks may have state or party backing.
The Awami League reported alarming statistics regarding the country's security situation. They claimed that between February and September, 21,756 cases of violence were filed, including 1,789 murders and over 11,000 cases involving violence against women and children. The party also highlighted 339 reported rapes between January and August and cited findings from the Human Rights Support Society regarding political violence deaths and injuries.
