Bangladesh Parliament to prioritize committee formation and key bills

Bangladesh National Parliament Chief Whip Nurul Islam Moni has announced that the formation of parliamentary committees will be the top priority during the upcoming third session, starting Thursday. The session is expected to last between 5 and 10 days, though the duration may be extended if necessary.

Approximately six significant bills are expected to be introduced, including legislation regarding property transfer and the protection of human rights and prevention of enforced disappearances. Regarding the property transfer bill, Moni noted that the law aims to prevent child neglect by ensuring parents retain the right to use and enjoy their property even after transferring ownership to their children.

Additionally, a proposal has been made to form a 17-member committee for constitutional reform. The proposed composition includes seven members from the BNP, five from Jamaat-e-Islami, and one member each from other smaller parties. Moni emphasized that the government intends to implement the commitments made in the July Charter and will make necessary legislative changes to serve national interests.
