Bangladesh PM launches nationwide three-month dengue prevention campaign
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has launched a three-month nationwide campaign to prevent dengue and promote cleanliness across Bangladesh. The “Dengue Prevention and Cleanliness Campaign-2026” officially began on 12 September and is scheduled to run until 12 December.
Inaugurated at the South Plaza of Jatiya Sangsad Bhaban, the initiative aims to destroy Aedes mosquito breeding grounds, increase public awareness, and coordinate efforts between government, private, and social sectors. The campaign involves activities at the city, divisional, district, and upazila levels. City corporations will lead in metropolitan areas, while deputy commissioners and upazila UNOs will oversee operations in other regions.
Approximately 25,000 volunteers and workers, including students, Scouts, Red Crescent members, and city corporation cleaners, are participating in the drive. During the launch, the Prime Minister called for collective civic responsibility, urging citizens to dedicate at least one hour per week to cleanliness to help control the disease prevalence.
