Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman alleges foreign-funded labour unrest
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman has accused the ousted Awami League and the opposition Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami of conspiring to destabilize the country through orchestrated labour unrest. Speaking at a rally in Rajshahi, Rahman cited intelligence reports claiming that the fugitive former leader is providing funds from across the border to stir up instability in industrial establishments.
The Prime Minister stated that while the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) government is focused on economic recovery, security, and reopening closed factories, certain political groups are attempting to disrupt these efforts. He noted that six industrial units have already reopened in the last seven months, with plans to reopen approximately 46 more throughout 2027.
During the event, Rahman also announced several social and economic initiatives, including a Tk 12 crore incentive programme for sugarcane farmers and a plan to double the bed capacity at every upazila health complex within five years.
