Bangladesh PM Tarique Rahman Gains US Confidence as Travel Advisory Is Lifted
U.S. Special Presidential Envoy for South and Central Asia Sergio Gor met Prime Minister Tarique Rahman at the Prime Minister's Office in Dhaka. Gor said the United States has "strong confidence" in Rahman's leadership and noted that stability has returned to Bangladesh.
Following the meeting, Washington revised its travel advisory for Bangladesh, signalling to investors that the country is ready for increased U.S. investment. The two leaders discussed expanding U.S. participation in Bangladesh’s information‑technology sector and agricultural warehousing, and Gor urged Bangladesh to join the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative aimed at securing supply chains for critical minerals, semiconductors and AI infrastructure.
The discussion also covered the ongoing Rohingya crisis, with both sides praising Bangladesh’s humanitarian response and agreeing to cooperate on health‑sector testing with the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
