Bangladesh police rescue baby sold for 200,000 BDT
Police in Bangladesh have rescued a 13-month-old boy and arrested five individuals, including the child's paternal grandparents, for allegedly selling him for 200,000 BDT. The rescue took place in the Char Mahmudpur area of Dhaka's Dohar upazila.
The child's mother, Rozina Begum, filed a case under the Human Trafficking and Anti-Smuggling Act after learning that her husband and in-laws had sold the infant to unknown persons on September 28. According to the complaint, the mother had been forced out of her home following domestic disputes, while the child remained with the paternal family.
The arrested individuals include the child's grandfather Ujjal Mia, his wife Aisha Khatun, the child's paternal aunt Sharifa Khatun, and a couple from Dohar, Abed Molla and Shikha. The child is currently in police custody and will be handed over through the court system.
