Bangladesh primary teacher recruitment sparks protests

Candidates recommended for assistant teacher positions in government primary schools in Bangladesh are protesting after failing to receive appointment letters. Organizations such as ‘Kendrio Panel Primary 2025’ claim that between 2,000 and 2,500 recommended candidates have been excluded, citing issues with police verification, drug tests, health certificates, or educational document discrepancies.

In response to the growing unrest, Education Minister A. N. M. Ehsanul Haque Milen dismissed reports of widespread confusion as misleading. He stated that verification is a standard procedure and assured that any candidate who has not received an appointment letter by October 1, 2026, will be processed and issued one following further investigation.

Protesters have staged demonstrations in Shahbagh, Dhaka, demanding a fair re-verification of their documents and the opportunity to appeal administrative decisions. They have vowed to continue their street protests until their demands for employment are met.
