Bangladesh Prime Minister calls for international aid on Rohingya crisis

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman has identified the Rohingya crisis as one of Bangladesh’s most significant challenges, calling for international cooperation to ensure safe and dignified repatriation. During a meeting with Yohei Sasakawa, Japan’s special envoy for Myanmar and Chairman of the Nippon Foundation, the Prime Minister highlighted the immense pressure the crisis has placed on Bangladesh’s economy, infrastructure, and management.

Sasakawa acknowledged Japan’s ongoing humanitarian contributions and noted that while the Myanmar government has expressed sincerity in resolving the issue, the current complex situation in Rakhine State has slowed the pace of repatriation. The discussion emphasized the need for multilateral initiatives to achieve a sustainable solution.

In addition to discussing the crisis, the Prime Minister sought Japanese assistance in establishing a vaccine production center in Bangladesh and expressed strong interest in attracting Japanese investment by fostering a business-friendly environment. Both parties also discussed improving bilateral relations with Myanmar.
