Bangladesh Prime Minister Tarique Rahman Signs Major Agreements on China Visit
Prime Minister Tarique Rahman completed a four‑day state visit to China, meeting President Xi Jinping and signing 13 memoranda of understanding covering trade, infrastructure, water management, flood mitigation and cooperation in the green and digital economies. The agreements highlighted two flagship projects: the Teesta Barrage Master Plan and a proposed China‑Myanmar‑Bangladesh economic corridor that would give Bangladesh direct access to Chinese markets via Myanmar. During the talks the leaders announced the creation of a “China‑Bangladesh community with a shared future in the new era,” and Bangladesh reaffirmed its support for China’s one‑China policy. Analysts note the visit marks the first Bangladesh prime‑ministerial trip to China since 1996 and signals a shift toward deeper political and economic ties with Beijing, potentially diversifying Dhaka’s traditional alignment with India.
