Bangladesh proposes educational diplomacy and migrant worker hotline

The Parliamentary Standing Committee on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has proposed the introduction of ‘educational diplomacy’ services at Bangladeshi missions abroad. This initiative aims to better support the large number of Bangladeshi students studying in various countries.

Additionally, the committee proposed the establishment of a dedicated emergency hotline to provide immediate assistance to female migrant workers facing violence abroad. Both the Foreign Minister, Khalilur Rahman, and State Minister Shama Obaid Islam expressed their agreement to these proposals during the committee’s first meeting.

The meeting also addressed several other diplomatic matters, including strategies to prevent illegal migration in countries such as the United Arab Emirates. Discussions were held regarding the Prime Minister’s potential visit to India, with officials noting that a visit would occur if a favorable environment is established. The committee also reviewed the ministry’s organizational structure, recent achievements, and its work plan for the next 180 days.
