Bangladesh vs West Indies: Shadman Islam scores century amid batting collapse

In the first Test of the series at Mirpur, Bangladesh suffered a significant batting collapse on the second day, being bowled out for 272. Despite opener Shadman Islam reaching his third Test century with a score of 105, the team lost seven wickets for just 59 runs.

West Indies spinner Jomel Warrican led the bowling attack, claiming 5 for 53, while debutant Joshua Bishop took 2 wickets. The collapse followed Shadman’s milestone, which was immediately followed by the dismissal of Towhid Hridoy, who had previously retired hurt due to cramps.

In response, West Indies reached 134 for 4 before play was halted by bad light and rain. John Campbell scored a quick 54 before his dismissal, and Tagenarine Chanderpaul remained unbeaten on 43 at the close of play. The match remains finely poised as both teams compete for crucial ICC World Test Championship points.
