Reports from September indicate significant safety and human rights concerns in Bangladesh. According to the Road Safety Foundation, motorcycle accidents were the deadliest category of road crashes, claiming 139 lives in 154 incidents. This accounted for approximately 32.86 per cent of total road deaths. In total, 423 people were killed and 674 were injured in 442 road accidents during the month, with reckless riding by youths identified as a primary factor.
Separately, the Human Rights Support Society (HRSS) documented at least 236 cases of violence against women and children in September. These incidents included 79 cases of rape, with 47 victims being children or adolescent girls. The report also noted 13 cases of gang rape and 49 cases of sexual abuse. Additionally, the findings highlighted 43 women killed and 26 deaths by suicide related to domestic violence, alongside instances of dowry-related violence and political unrest.
