Bangladesh saves albino 'Donald Trump' buffalo from Eid slaughter, moves it to zoo
A rare 700‑kg albino buffalo in Bangladesh, nicknamed “Donald Trump” for its distinctive blonde hair, was slated for sacrifice during the Eid al‑Adha festival. Hours before the animal was to be slaughtered, government officials intervened, ordering livestock services to retrieve the buffalo from its owner.
The animal was transferred to the National Zoo in Dhaka, where curator Atiqur Rahman said it will be placed in quarantine for two weeks and given a dedicated caretaker. Former owner Zia Uddin Mridha explained the nickname originated from the buffalo’s “extraordinary hair.” The rescue sparked crowds of curious onlookers taking photos, while the festival typically sees millions of goats, sheep, cattle and buffaloes slaughtered across the country.
