Bangladesh seeks Canadian cooperation in health, education, and energy

Prime Minister Tarek Rahman met with a Canadian delegation led by Minister of International Development Randeep Sarai to discuss strengthening bilateral ties and strategic partnerships between Bangladesh and Canada.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister requested Canadian cooperation in critical sectors, including health, education, technology, agriculture, and food security. A significant portion of the discussion focused on the Rohingya crisis. The Prime Minister highlighted that approximately 1.3 million Rohingya refugees are currently in Bangladesh, placing immense economic and environmental pressure on the nation. He emphasized that while humanitarian aid is vital, the permanent solution lies in their safe, voluntary, and dignified repatriation to Myanmar.

Canada expressed interest in supporting Bangladesh's energy security, specifically through the supply of oil and liquefied natural gas (LNG). Additionally, Canada indicated a willingness to cooperate in technical and vocational education, nursing training, and climate finance to help address poverty and environmental challenges.
