Bangladesh seeks fisheries and livestock cooperation with Italy
Bangladesh is seeking to strengthen bilateral cooperation with Italy in the fisheries and livestock sectors. During a meeting held on the sidelines of an event at the FAO headquarters in Rome, Bangladesh’s State Minister for Fisheries and Livestock, Sultan Salahuddin Touku, met with Italy’s Undersecretary of State for Agriculture, Food Sovereignty and Forestry, Luigi D’Eramo. The discussions focused on aquaculture, marine fisheries, and the blue economy, with both nations expressing interest in signing a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand mutual cooperation.
In a separate development, the Bangladesh Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock signed an MoU with the International Center for Climate Change and Development (ICCCAD). This agreement aims to enhance institutional capacity and address the impacts of climate change within the fisheries and livestock sectors. The partnership will focus on developing projects to access international climate financing, such as the Green Climate Fund, and providing technical training to ministry officials to build climate resilience.
