Bangladesh seeks OIC support for Rohingya legal fund and aid

At an annual coordination meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) foreign ministers in New York, Bangladesh has called for international support regarding the Rohingya crisis.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Humayun Kabir urged OIC member states to contribute to the legal fund for Gambia’s case at the International Court of Justice (ICJ). He also requested continued life-saving humanitarian assistance for the displaced Rohingya population until their safe repatriation can be achieved.

Bangladesh currently hosts over 1.2 million forcibly displaced Rohingya refugees. Beyond the refugee crisis, the Minister encouraged stronger OIC cooperation in trade, investment, digital technology, and renewable energy to reduce digital divides and boost intra-OIC trade.
