Bangladesh seeks Swedish investment for Bay of Bengal energy exploration
Bangladesh is actively seeking foreign investment for offshore oil and gas exploration in the Bay of Bengal. Following a bidding round that saw no participants during the interim government's tenure, the Energy Division is holding direct meetings with multinational companies to encourage participation.
In London, a delegation led by the state minister for power, energy, and mineral resources met with 10 multinational companies, while additional meetings were held with six companies in Singapore. To facilitate informed decision-making, the government has decided to make all available data regarding the Bay of Bengal’s hydrocarbon potential accessible to potential investors.
During a meeting in Dhaka, Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad specifically invited Swedish companies to explore energy extraction opportunities in the region. The Speaker also discussed strengthening bilateral ties through parliamentary friendship groups and cooperation in sports and culture with Swedish Ambassador Nicolas Weeks.
