Sri Lanka wins Asian Games cricket bronze by defeating Bangladesh
Sri Lanka secured the bronze medal in the men’s cricket competition at the Asian Games by defeating Bangladesh by 63 runs at Korogi Sports Park in Nisshin, Japan.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, Sri Lanka faced early difficulties, falling to 21/4. However, Tharindu Ratnayake played a decisive role, scoring 65 runs from 32 balls, including seven fours and five sixes. A 93-run partnership between Ratnayake and captain Sahan Arachchige, who contributed 33, helped Sri Lanka reach a total of 165/9 in their 20 overs.
In response, Bangladesh’s batting lineup struggled significantly. The top three batsmen—Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, and captain Litton Das—were all dismissed for ducks. Bangladesh was bowled out for 102 in 17.3 overs. Sri Lankan bowlers Nuwan Thushara, Tharindu Ratnayake, Vijayakanth Viyaskanth, and Wanuja Sahan each claimed two wickets to secure the victory.
Following the match, Bangladesh head coach Mohammad Salahuddin expressed his disappointment, stating, “We are ashamed in front of the people of the country. As a coach, I also think we have failed.”
