Bangladesh Speaker and Indian Envoy discuss strengthening bilateral ties

Bangladesh Jatiya Sangsad Speaker Hafiz Uddin Ahmad and Deputy Speaker Kaiser Kamal met with Indian High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi to discuss strengthening bilateral relations between Bangladesh and India.

Speaker Ahmad emphasized that future ties should be built on mutual respect, sovereignty, and people-to-people connections rather than being strictly government-centric. He criticized the previous Awami League administration, stating that staged elections in 2008, 2014, 2018, and 2024 undermined democratic rights, and noted that the 2024 mass uprising helped restore democracy.

High Commissioner Trivedi expressed India’s interest in developing people-centric relations to meet the aspirations of both nations. The discussions also covered parliamentary delegation exchanges, the Rohingya crisis and its rehabilitation, and cooperation in sports and culture.
