Bangladesh targets trillion-dollar economy by 2034
Bangladesh has launched a strategic initiative to transform its economy into a trillion-dollar entity by 2034. The government is pursuing a development model focused on recovery, restoration, and reconstruction, with key priorities including industrial diversification, technological advancement, and increased public spending on healthcare and education.
To support this transition, Prime Minister’s Finance and Planning Adviser Rashed Al Mahmud Titumir has called upon the Bangladeshi-American diaspora to serve as a bridge to the US innovation ecosystem. He urged engineers, scientists, and entrepreneurs to facilitate technology transfer, establish research partnerships, and connect local startups with international capital.
Additionally, the government is prioritizing the tourism sector as a major economic driver. Plans include using AI and big data to modernize services, creating tourism clusters in over 30 districts, and establishing an aviation hub to connect South and Southeast Asia. To bolster economic growth, Bangladesh Bank is also implementing various stimulus packages, including credit facilities for SMEs, green industrialization, and the agricultural sector.
