Bangladesh to honor 100 distinguished teachers on World Teachers' Day

The Bangladesh government has announced that 100 distinguished teachers will be honored on October 5 in celebration of World Teachers' Day. This marks a significant increase from previous years, when only 12 teachers received such recognition.

During a meeting of the national steering committee for the 'World Teachers' Day 2026' celebrations, Education Minister A.N.M. Ehsanul Haque Milun and Primary and Mass Education Adviser Mahdi Amin shared the details. The awards aim to recognize the contributions of educators to nation-building across all levels, from primary to higher education.

While the number of awardees was increased, there was an initial decision to reduce the individual award amount from 200,000 BDT to 100,000 BDT. However, the Education Minister stated that efforts are underway to discuss increasing the award amount with the Ministry of Finance.
