Bangladesh to introduce SSC re-examination policy

The Bangladesh government is planning to introduce a new system allowing students who fail the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) and equivalent exams to retake them within three to six months of the initial results. While no supplementary exams will be held this year due to insufficient preparation and the need for new policy frameworks, the initiative aims to prevent students from losing an entire academic year.

Prime Minister’s Education Adviser Mahdi Amin announced the plan, noting that the Ministry of Education has been directed to submit a detailed action plan by October 15. This plan will cover examination methods, question paper preparation, scheduling, and the admission process for eleventh-grade students.

In addition to academic retakes, the government intends to create a comprehensive database of unsuccessful students to facilitate transitions into vocational training or international language programs. This strategy seeks to reduce dropout rates, alleviate mental pressure on students, and develop a skilled workforce by directing those who struggle in traditional academic paths toward technical expertise.
