Bangladesh to open new consulates in China, Germany, and Brazil

The Government of Bangladesh has decided to establish three new consulate general offices in Guangzhou, China; Frankfurt, Germany; and Sao Paulo, Brazil. The initiative aims to enhance consular services for Bangladeshi expatriates and strengthen trade, investment, and diplomatic ties in these strategically important regions.

In Guangzhou, a major commercial hub in southern China, the new consulate will better serve Bangladeshi students, businessmen, and workers, addressing the logistical challenges posed by the distance from existing missions in Beijing and Kunming. In Frankfurt, the mission seeks to bolster economic engagement with the European Union, noting that trade between Bangladesh and Germany reached approximately 9 billion euros in 2024.

The establishment of a consulate in Sao Paulo is intended to expand commercial reach into Latin American markets and increase diplomatic engagement regarding BRICS and Global South issues. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has requested the Ministry of Finance to approve the necessary organizational structure, including new positions, vehicles, and office equipment, following approval from the Ministry of Public Administration.
