Bangladesh to recruit 34,500 primary school head teachers

The Bangladesh government has initiated plans to fill approximately 34,500 vacant head teacher positions in government primary schools nationwide. State Minister for Primary and Mass Education Bobby Hajjaj announced that discussions are underway with the Public Service Commission (PSC) to expedite the recruitment process.

Filling these vacancies is intended to strengthen school administration and institutional leadership. The recruitment process will involve examinations conducted through the PSC, as these positions fall under Grade 10 of the national pay scale. In addition to direct recruitment, the government is considering the promotion of skilled and experienced teachers in accordance with existing rules.

A recent 29-page judgment from the Appellate Division has resolved long-standing legal complications regarding teacher seniority and promotions. This verdict has cleared the way for over 36,000 assistant teachers to become eligible for promotion to head teacher roles. Once these promotions and new recruitments are finalized, a significant number of assistant teacher vacancies are expected to emerge, potentially leading to further large-scale recruitment drives.
